|

Many people visit our Website looking to post an adoption notice. Of course, our adopt page is only for "our" dogs and it is possibly against our interests to provide a spot on our Website to facilitate animal giving between people we have no contact with.
But, there are things to think about. It has been suggested that providing a board for people to post their own adoption ads might please people a lot and thus increase our reputation and maybe donations. Plus, our mandate is to reduce abandoned dogs, so providing such a service seems like the right thing to do.
But mixing other people's dog posts with our own doesn't seem right. So, I have thought of a concept that might be satisfactory.
We buy a new domain just for the public adoption board, something like 'petpost.com.tw' and put a BBS (probably PHP-BB, just like this forum, but modified a bit) on it.
We can then link from our Adopt and Help pages to there, and from there back to our site and to our Adopt pages.
We can also sell ads on the new board to make money. We can also use this board to dosplay ads telling people to go to our main site if they want to adopt a dog that we have rescued. (I think lots of people will prefer to adopt a 'rescued' dog and so this new BBS will actually bring more visitors to our adopt pages. So we lose nothing - only gain. |

As an example of what a properly configured BBS might look like, see the Rose Garden site:
http://www.doghome.org.tw/phpbb2/indexnew.php
People can't just post there - it's only for RG dogs, but they use PHPBBS to create it. Fostering volunteers update the threads for each animal. The site gets a lot of visitors. |

I voted NO.
Please let me explain...
I think we can just refer them to forumosa - pets and other animals. I am worried about those cases that we do sometimes encounter - when someone's pet has become an inconvenience to them and they no longer want it. Then they want to get rid of it. So I am concerned that in a round about way it will seem like we are "supporting" irresponsible pet ownership. And remember that the people who want to get rid of their pets probably won't be too picky about who the animal goes to.
Maybe I am just too worried of cautious. |
